The challenge

The school building was erected in the 1960s and consists of the main building and the sports hall in the west. There is a high number of deficiencies regarding the building systems. The whole site is not any longer according to actual requirements. A full renovation is necessary, receiving fiscal economic stimulus.

The solution

A first step includes the recording of the existing situation and elaborating a fire protection concept. The project continues with the renovation and restructuring of the sports hall. Adjoining rooms are being restructured and common areas are given better orientation for events taking place in the hall. A colour concept combining yellow, orange and red is found in the sanitary rooms and in the entrance.

The building is consists in two three-floor structures with the classrooms connected by three hallways. The last step comprises the energetic renovation of the building in eight construction sub-divisions during normal school activities: a thermal insulation system, new wood-aluminium windows, cavity insulation above the top floor. A new colour and material concept gives a friendly character to the whole school complex. Interim mobile classrooms in modular construction are set up in the courtyard to guarantee schooling.
